Last Thursday was the Fourth Annual Christmas party that I throw for my friends.  Generally we get together and eat food, open presents and, this year, we set off fireworks.  Fun times.  I make all the food, usually, and use the opportunity to try out new recipes on them, which thus far has worked out pretty well.  No recipe flops in four years is a pretty good track record.

For the place settings, for the last couple years I have made them little homemade treats.  Perhaps you recall the marshmallows and hot cocoa mix from last year.  This year it was truffles.  Three kinds of truffles.  Chocolate candy cane (just stir crushed candy canes into that ganache recipe), peanut butter pretzel and my personal favourite, cookie dough.  Truffles are pretty easy to make, just time consuming because you have to chill them, sometimes multiple times, while you are creating them.  But, man, they are so good.  And when you only use one dozen of each kind, that means you have the same amount in leftovers to stick in the freezer and enjoy at your leisure.
