The friend that got married last week had a second wedding/reception/party in Wichita on Thursday, since her husband’s family could not make it up here for this one. So when her dad ended up not being able to go down to Kansas for medical reasons, we moved flights around so that I could go in his place, along with her sisters. It was a fun trip! I had not ever been to Kansas before, so the most we knew about it was that it would probably be hot. And it really was hot. The wedding was pretty though, and after a few bumps on the day of, the actual ceremony/reception went pretty well.
The day before we came back home we did some shopping and swimming and such, and then in the evening we went down to the river, where they have a statue of a chief, (I think maybe representing the Native American tribe that the city is named after) and a walking bridge. Every evening at 9pm, they light five fires around the base of the statue, and it’s kind of a touristy thing to go and watch. I think there is maybe some story behind the fires, but I don’t know what it is.
