Dead trees

One of the heifers was out of the pasture last night.  She seemed to go back in calmly enough, but cows are crafty that way.  They are excellent at discovering openings in a fence.  Since our combine is in town being repaired, we were doing a bunch of fix-up/clean up things today.  I took the quad out to check the fence to see where she had gotten out and discovered that she was out again.  I also discovered that a dead tree had and snapped and fallen over onto the fence, providing a very handy escape route for her.  I am surprised that she was the only one that took advantage of that.

I am not sure if it is the dirt there, or what, but there are a whole bunch of dead trees in that row.  They seem sturdy enough, but this one at least had rotted right at the roots.  It has also been quite windy, so maybe that had something to do with it, too.  The rest are still standing, and the cows are probably just hoping for another one to fall onto their fence so they can have another field trip.

About Kathy

I'm a twenty-something who loves animals, farming, photography and cooking/baking. Luckily enough, photography works really well with the other three subjects, so I carry my camera around practically everywhere. Other than that, my life is pretty uneventful.
