Last winter we gained a few stray cats.  It was kind of cold and stormy all winter, so they moved into the barn for the winter.  You couldn’t really come close to any of them, but we set food out for them and hoped the tame cats wouldn’t eat it before the strays gained the courage to do so.  They did ok though, and one or two of them are still hanging around the yard, although now they only come in the barn if it is going to rain for an extended period of time.

Except for one, Bruno.  One evening I heard a cat crying out behind the barn when we were doing chores, so I went out to look.  It was darkish and snowy and he was scared and wouldn’t let me come too close.  Plus he looked almost identical to one of our wild cats, so I just went back inside.  We think maybe his old family just dumped him ( it seemed like he was a house cat), and he was lost and scared.  He eventually came in the barn, and we found out he was tame after all.  Now he feels quite at home here, and even though he has to be a barn cat instead of a house cat, I don’t think he minds.

About Kathy

I'm a twenty-something who loves animals, farming, photography and cooking/baking. Luckily enough, photography works really well with the other three subjects, so I carry my camera around practically everywhere. Other than that, my life is pretty uneventful.
