Ah, a perfect stereotypical match. Cats and string. Of course this match can be expanded to balls of yarn and the like, but it seems most often in photos, cartoons in the paper and Garfield, it is string that has captured the cat’s heart. And what’s not to love, really. It moves when you hit it, if it is in a ball, you can make it roll and then pounce on it.
Bandit, for example, recently rediscovered a love for baler twine. The other day when I was opening bales, I was dragging the strings behind me and he was pouncing on them. All of a sudden, he picked one up in his mouth and ran out of the barn with it. He ran around outside, still holding it, then back into the barn. This went on for quite a few minutes. It was quite annoying to him that his brothers kept jumping on the other ends and making him stop really suddenly, so eventually he gave up. Today I tried to photograph him doing it, but he would always drop the string and just sit there.
